Newcastle fans reflect on past failure to sign Berahino

Just under four years ago, Newcastle made what was, at the time, a club record bid to sign Saido Berahino from West Brom, offering £24million for the then 22-year old striker.

Fast forward to the present day and the one-time England international hopeful is now playing his football for Zulte Waregem in Belgium, having suffered through a miserable spell with Stoke, whilst also committing himself to playing intentionally for Burundi.

After Berahino fell out with West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace, the striker joined Stoke, where he would score just three goals in 51 league games over two and half seasons with the Potters (SoccerBase).

With the benefit of hindsight, several Newcastle fans have now taken to social media to reflect on what could have been, if Berahino had accepted the opportunity to join the Magpies in January 2016.
