Newcastle fans react as pundit tips Dubravka to move to Chelsea

Several Newcastle fans have reacted to Garth Crooks’ suggestion that Chelsea should consider signing goalkeeper Martin Dubravka in the summer.

The Slovenian international has impressed since signing for the Magpies from Slavia Prague, first on a loan deal during the 2017/18 season, before the club completed a permanent switch for €5million the following summer.

Described by one supporter recently as having reached ‘[Shay] Given levels’, the 31-year old has quickly become one of the club’s most important players.

After naming his BBC Sport Premier League Team of the Week, Crooks suggested that Chelsea should consider signing Dubravka, who Chronicle Live have described as arguably the club’s Player of the Season. Writing about Chelsea’s goalkeeping situation, Crooks said:

The London club have gone from having Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois – two world-class goalkeepers – to Kepa and Caballero, who both look like they’ve only recently been introduced to the game.

If Chelsea are serious about a top-four place they need to get a top-class goalkeeper. They should take a serious look at Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka.

Several Newcastle supporters have revealed that they understand how their beloved shot-stopper could be targeted by a club of Chelsea’s calibre.

However, with Dubravka having signed a new six-year contract at the tail end of 2019 (talkSPORT), it likely wouldn’t be a cheap deal for the Blues.
