Chelsea may be forced to block any potential deal that could see Olivier Giroud leave the club, unless they get a replacement signed before Friday’s deadline.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Chelsea are open to letting the Frenchman leave this week – but want to get another body in before giving Giroud the green light to go.
Ornstein tweeted to confirm that Giroud is open to joining Chelsea’s London rivals Tottenham. Meanwhile, Chronicle Live have also stated that Newcastle are monitoring the player’s future.

This is a deal that looks like it is now out of Newcastle’s hands, with Chelsea scrambling around to try and get a replacement in with just a couple of days left in the window.
Tottenham’s interest in Giroud could spell bad news for Newcastle, with Jose Mourinho’s men able to offer the striker Champions League football during the second half of the campaign.
With Harry Kane ruled out until at least March (The Guardian), there’s a great chance he could play regularly for Spurs too.
Giroud has previously been warned about his place in the French squad for Euro 2020 by Didier Deschamps (Daily Mail). With one eye on the European Championships in the summer, the opportunity to play regularly in the Champions League could see Giroud favour a move to stay in London.
