Newcastle target Rose ‘expected’ to leave Tottenham

Danny Rose is ‘expected’ to leave Tottenham on loan before the end of the January transfer window.

According to the London Evening Standard, Tottenham are poised to let both Rose and Kyle Walker-Peters, who is attracting interest from Southampton, depart the club this month.

As per the report, Newcastle, Bournemouth and Watford are all hoping to sign Rose for the remainder of the season.

While they face Premier League competition, it’s a deal that could solve a huge defensive headache for Steve Bruce.

With Jetro Willems and Paul Dummett both suffering long-term injuries, Bruce has no natural left-sided defender to call upon between now and the end of the season (Chronicle Live).

In Rose, the club would be signing a proven Premier League defender while also making up the numbers at the same time. With over 200 Premier League appearances and 29 caps for his country, Rose would instantly be viewed as one of the more experienced players in the Newcastle squad (transfermarkt).

Newcastle appear to be in the market for a striker, with the likes of Paco Alcacer (The Guardian) and Josef Martinez (Chronicle Live) linked with moves to St James’ Park recently. While Bruce does need to consider adding goals to his squad, the potential addition of Rose could go a long way to solving a potential defensive crisis and could be seen as the more important signing.
