Josef Martinez is the latest name to be linked with a move to St James’ Park, with Newcastle reportedly keeping tabs on the Venezuelan striker.
According to a report by Chronicle Live, the club’s head of recruitment Steve Nickson has personally scouted the player.
Martinez was among the top scorers in the MLS for Atlanta United last time out with 28 goals, only Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Carlos Vela managed to score more (WhoScored).
After seeing the slow start that Miguel Almiron made to life in the Premier League, Martinez’s form in Europe could possibly be a cause of concern for Newcastle. He failed to impress during spells in the Swiss Super League and Serie A – finding the back of the net on just 17 occasions during his time in both leagues (transfermarkt).
After seeing the links to the 26-year-old, these Newcastle fans on Twitter would clearly be delighted to see him join the club in the future.
