Leeds plotting Gayle approach with Nketiah set for Arsenal return

Leeds United will make an approach for Dwight Gayle, with Arsenal set to recall Eddie Nketiah in the new year.

That’s according to Football Insider, who claim that the Newcastle forward is a target for the Whites as they look to secure promotion back to the Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa currently has Patrick Bamford and Gunners loanee Nketiah as attacking options, however, the latter is expected to head back to the Emirates in the coming months.

If that is the case, then it looks as if Leeds will firm up their interest in Gayle, who has recently been valued at £15m by the Magpies.

Fellow Championship heavyweights West Bromwich Albion and Nottingham Forest have also been linked with the 28-year-old, who has found opportunities limited so far this season under Steve Bruce.

Gayle has struggled to break into Bruce’s plans in recent months, so if Newcastle could receive £15m from Leeds for the forward, it could be a good move for all involved.

Leeds would be receiving a prolific second-tier goalscorer, Gayle himself would be handed more minutes and Newcastle could then use the funds to strengthen ahead of the second half of the season.
