Fans react to Diame calling Newcastle the biggest club outside the top four

Ahead of tomorrow’s huge game at Anfield, former Newcastle midfielder Mo Diame, who now plys his trade in Qatar with Al Ahli, has spoken very highly of Newcastle during an interview with Andy Kerr from BeINSports. Diame said:

For me it’s a massive club – outside of the big four, Newcastle for me is the best club in England.

The comments have predicably been recieved with great fondness amongst Toon fans, here are some of the best reactions…

Love Mo!

Never be topped!

Give him a contract!

It is evident that many fans regret the club’s decision to allow Diame to leave on a free at the end of last season, with many hoping for his return, and some wishing for him to replace underperformer Ki Sung-Yueng

Diame spent two seasons at St. James’ Park and was a firm fan favourite, with his power in midfield having a big impact on the team, and it appears he will now be appreciated by the Newcastle faithful even more, without playing for the club.

The 32-year-old also spoke highly of the heavily scrutinised owner Mike Ashley.

I met with the chairman when we had the dinner with the team and he talked to us about his life, and I had a good feeling with him.

Although fans are unlikely to appreciate his support of Ashley, the Senegalese international holds a place in the hearts of the Newcastle fans, and vice versa.
