Shearer is playing a risky game with supporters as he defends Bruce

Club legend Alan Shearer risks upsetting Newcastle fans with his latest social media activity.

The former striker was seen ‘liking‘ Jonathan Walters’ tweet defending Steve Bruce recently.

It all stemmed from Michael Chopra’s interview with talkSPORT, where he slammed Bruce for his management style, claiming players ‘didn’t know their jobs’.

Walters hit back in emphatic style, raising serious doubts about the truth behind Chopra’s quotes.

It’s a risky move for Shearer and one that could cause a divide between him and the club’s supporters.

He is someone who has always been critical of Mike Ashley and the current going-ons at the club, never usually one to shirk off an opportunity to make his feelings public.

The problem now lies with his personal relationship with Bruce. The two are known to be good friends away from football and you fear that Shearer’s vision may be blurred here.

It would be a real kick in the teeth for supporters to see someone with the profile of Shearer side with an underperforming manager as a result of his personal friendship.

Of course, it’s by no means an easy position for Shearer to be in, but he has to continue to call it out how it is with Newcastle, or he may face the wrath of some unhappy supporters.
