Steve Bruce is said to be hopeful about Allan Saint-Maximin’s chances of making the matchday squad to face Tottenham.
Chronicle Live reports that the player was back in the gym on Monday working on his fitness after missing the game against Norwich over the weekend.
The Frenchman will certainly be a welcomed return against Mauricio Pochettino’s men, but could he be the difference-maker?

You’d imagine that Bruce will start the French winger on the bench against Spurs.
It would be a surprise to see Saint-Maximin start, unless Bruce decides to really go for it away from home, a decision that could lead to big problems if Saturday’s performance at Carrow Road is anything to go by.

If Newcastle can keep the game close, Saint-Maximin could make a big impact from the bench. His speed and direct runs could be a key weapon for the visitors to try and get in behind Spurs’ tiring defence.
He’s yet to really show Newcastle supporters what he is capable of and an impressive cameo on Sunday would go a long way in allaying some of the fears supporters have about his arrival.
