Miguel Almiron has been named in Paraguay’s 18-man squad to face Japan and Jordan in their upcoming friendly matches.
As confirmed by the club’s official website, the midfielder has made the squad this time around, despite some mixed performances for the Magpies recently.
International recognition would usually be good news, but the common theme among Newcastle supporters was confusion.
Almiron has been less than convincing since joining the club and a number of fans questioned his call-up after it was announced on Twitter.

Read Newcastle verdict
While Almiron has shown flashes of brilliance last season, he’s yet to really stamp his mark on Newcastle since arriving at the club.
The international call-up, while expected, is in many people’s eyes undeserved after the form he has shown during the first couple of games this season.
Almiron offered very little against Norwich in an attacking sense and still looked some way off being what you would consider ‘ready’ for the Premier League.
While it could still be too early to judge him this season, Newcastle need more from their big-money signing if they want to stay in this division. His adaption period to the league should be over and Bruce needs him to kick on sooner rather than later.
