Former England defender Danny Mills has urged Steve Bruce to bring an exciting attacking style of football to St James’ Park this season to get the Magpies fans on side.
Bruce began his tenure in charge with a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, with many questioning the manager’s decision to leave summer signing Allan Saint-Maximin out of the starting line-up.

Many Magpies supporters were disappointed with the appointment of Bruce in the summer to succeed Rafael Benitez, and Mills, talking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted an attacking style of football could bring the fans back on side.
Yeah, definitely. As a manager, you get judged on results, signings and style of play.
Signings will take a little bit of time, we won’t know about that for a while. Obviously results we know instantly, that happens on the first day.
Style of play is a massive thing in this day and age and this new era of modern football. If they can have an attacking style of play, creating chances and the fans are happy with that, it perhaps gives you that little bit longer with the fans in that honeymoon period.

This weekend’s opponents, Norwich City, could be the perfect opposition to begin a new attacking style of football under Bruce.
The Canaries have had their problems at the back over the past 12 months and haven’t added any real quality to their defensive ranks.
Daniel Farke’s side like to play an expansive brand of football, so a trip to Carrow Road could be the perfect opportunity for Bruce to entertain the Magpies supporters with an exciting line-up.
If he does decide to set out an attacking stall on Saturday, which leads to a first win of the season, hope could be restored by many Bruce doubters.
