Newcastle United supporters have finally been given some good news after a weekend of disappointment.
The club have reportedly opened talks with Sean Longstaff over a new long-term contract at St James’ Park.
The Times claim that the player could put pen to paper, with brother Matty Longstaff also in line for a new contract.
It has been a difficult few weeks for supporters and judging by these reactions on social media, Longstaff’s proposed new contract is a timely boost for some.

After reported interest from Manchester United over the summer, tieing down Sean to a new long-term contract will be a huge relief for the club.
If you take Matty into consideration too, especially after the pre-season he has just enjoyed, then the club have two very talented young midfielders in their ranks for the considerable future.
What you can’t ignore is that a long-term deal does also protect Sean’s market value. Fans don’t want to think about the idea of him leaving the club, but if a bid were to come in next summer, Newcastle have the added bonus of being able to demand a bigger fee. A smart move for all involved.
