Moyes says Newcastle were unlucky against Arsenal – do the positives outweigh the negatives?

Former Manchester United and West Ham boss David Moyes says a single ‘defensive mistake’ cost the Magpies against Arsenal over the weekend.

Speaking on talkSPORT, as cited by Chronicle Live, Moyes refused to believe that the reaction surrounding Newcastle’s performances should be so doom and gloom, with the Scot trying to see the positives in their display.

A defensive mistake cost them the game. I thought Steve had set his team up and they put up an admirable [effort].

If Moyes can see it, should Newcastle be feeling more positive as they prepare to face Norwich at the weekend?

Newcastle’s general performance was overshadowed by the goings-on off the pitch and the sloppy end to the game.

Arsenal failed to seriously test Newcastle throughout the 90 minutes, boasting just two shots on target.

While it wasn’t pretty, Bruce had initially set his team up well and had a few chances gone their way, they could have quite easily come away with a point or even all three on another day.

Bruce’s decisions in the latter stages, including those substitutions, really unsettled Newcastle and it’s easy to see where exactly the game fell apart for them.

With that in mind, there are a lot of positives to take. If they can build upon that over the coming weeks, there should be plenty of hope among supporters that results can pick up.
