Former Liverpool and Tottenham striker Peter Crouch says he has his doubts over Newcastle this season.
Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Crouch is confident that Steve Bruce’s side can avoid relegation, but it doesn’t sound all that promising from the former England international.
He said:
Joelinton, the Brazilian they signed from Hoffenheim, is exciting locals but will he light up the Premier League? I have my doubts about everything. With Rafa, they were guaranteed to stay in mid-table. Bruce has the job he has always dreamed about — I hope for his sake that it doesn’t turn toxic.

Crouch seems to be feeling exactly the same as most Newcastle supporters ahead of the new season.
The signings that the club have made on paper look to be positive ones, but they’ve replaced Premier League proven players with unknown talents.
Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin could both go on to set the Premier League alight over the coming months, but until they are given sufficient time to adapt and come to terms with the rigours of Premier League football, it’s an anxious wait for Newcastle supporters.
If they can hit the ground running, there should be enough quality in the squad to go on and avoid relegation, like Crouch thinks they will. However, if things do not go to plan, it could be a long season for supporters, who will be looking over their shoulders.
