Newcastle face competition in race for Rony Lopes, but what would he offer the Magpies?

Newcastle have been linked with a move for AS Monaco playmaker Rony Lopes, but what would the 23-year-old bring to St. James’ Park?

According to Get French Football News, via L’Equipe, Newcastle are interested in a move for the highly sought after Portugal international, who is also subject of interest from West Ham, Everton, Sevilla and Valencia.

But what would the €25m-€30million rated playmaker offer Newcastle?

Given his short stature, Lopes is well known for his excellent low centre of gravity and balance, whilst his ability on the ball is another of his main strengths.

The Portuguese midfielder was also likened to his former Manchester City teammate David Silva as a youngster in their academy, prior to his Monaco move.

Lopes is a quick, nippy player who possess a sharp turn of pace and has the versatility to feature on either wing or as an attacking midfielder, but his lack of height may cause him problems in the physical Premier League.

Lopes would certainly be a fine signing should the Magpies win the race to sign the 23-year-old, and add further firepower to their attacking options alongside the new signings of Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin.

The Portugal international would offer Steve Bruce pace, skill and versatility, and  he could prove to be a fine piece of business at €25m-€30million.
