Bruce confirms Gayle will stay at Newcastle, can he make an impact?

Steve Bruce has confirmed his intentions to keep Dwight Gayle at the club this summer, despite a number of sides expressing an interest in signing the striker, but can he make an impact this season?

According to The Shields Gazette, Bruce has revealed that Gayle is part of his plans for the 2019/20 when he returns to fitness, which is a blow for the likes of Aston Villa, West Brom and Fulham; all of whom have been linked with a move for the striker.

But can Gayle make an impact when given the chance this season?

Gayle is yet to have the chance to make an impression on Steve Bruce following his appointment as manager, with the striker still recovering from a calf problem.

And following the signing of striker Joelinton for a club record fee, Gayle appears to have his work cut out when it comes to forcing his way into Bruce’s starting lineup.

However, the fact that the Newcastle boss has publicly stated his intention to keep hold of the 28-year-old will provide Gayle with a much needed boost.

Furthermore, Bruce also revealed he has tried to sign the striker at previous clubs which further indicates that Gayle will be given the chance to make a meaningful contribution to Newcastle’s season.
