Newcastle United reportedly want to lure Ibrahim Amadou away from Sevilla in the final week of the transfer window, but should the Frenchman swap Spain for St James’ Park?
The midfielder only arrived in La Liga last summer, but after a difficult campaign, it seems he could be set for an earlier departure than expected.
Estadio Deportivo claims that Saint-Etienne are keen, but have not yet agreed terms with Sevilla. Meanwhile, watching on ahead of potential swoops are Getafe, an unnamed German club, and none other than Newcastle.

At the reported price of around €14 million, this is a deal that could make sense for all the parties involved. Amadou does not appear to have a future at Sevilla, and pursuing a new challenge elsewhere would benefit him.

The midfielder found himself in and out of the starting line-up last season, and ahead of Julen Lopetegui’s first campaign at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, he is evidently surplus to requirements. His prospects of first-team football are slim at best.
At Newcastle, however, this would be different. Amadou, 26, is entering the peak years of his career and will be determined to display his qualities on a big stage, such as the Premier League.
The Magpies still have work to do before the window slams shut, and adding a new midfielder to the ranks could provide Steve Bruce with another good option to call upon.
If Amadou can rediscover his form from his days at Lille, he could be a real coup for potential suitors. Newcastle should not risk missing out.
