Newcastle and West Ham are both willing to trigger Moussa Marega’s €30 million release clause this summer – but do the Magpies need him?
According to French outlet Foot Mercato, cited by Inside Futbol, both clubs are ready to bolster their attacking options by signing the Mali international from FC Porto.
Newcastle have recently brought in Joelinton from Hoffenheim, while the Hammers have signed Sebastien Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt, with both deals breaking both respective side’s transfer records.

A deal for Marega would see either side once again splash the cash in search of firepower up front.
Marega would bring plenty of power and pace to St James’ Park, with the striker scoring an impressive 21 times for his current side last season.
The 28-year-old is more of a natural goalscorer than Joelinton, however, it would be unlikely that the pair would start together due to possessing similar qualities.
Marega also has previous experience in Europe, so he would certainly be a marquee signing for Steve Bruce’s side.
A deal would place another serious marker down regarding Newcastle’s intentions for the upcoming campaign and could well be one the Magpies need to make to improve on their 13th placed finish last season.
