Newcastle hoping to land Wilson – would he be a better option than Bowen?

Newcastle are reportedly hopeful of landing Liverpool forward Harry Wilson on either a loan or permanent deal this summer.

Steve Bruce is interested in signing the winger as he looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2019/20 Premier League campaign.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss has already made one addition to his squad since joining this summer, bringing in Hoffenheim forward Joelinton for a club-record fee – after scoring seven Bundesliga goals last season.

Football Insider claim that both Aston Villa and Newcastle are keen on the Welsh international.

Newcastle have also been linked with a move for Hull winger Jarrod Bowen – so who would be the better option?

Wilson scored 18 goals in all competitions last season for Derby County on loan, whilst Bowen netted 22 in the Championship for Hull.

A large percentage of Wilson’s goals for Derby came from outside the box, via open play and set-pieces, which is not sustainable in the long-run.

Bowen, meanwhile, is proficient inside and outside of the box – scoring all types of goals from Hull in the second tier.

Both are 22-years-old and cut in off the right onto their left foot, although Wilson may be the cheaper option if Liverpool decide to loan him out.

If you had an unlimited budget, Bowen appears to be the superior option but Newcastle may opt for Wilson if he becomes available on loan as it would free up funds to strengthen in other positions.
