If any club comes in for your top prospect you’re aren’t going to step to one side and let them get their own way that easily, so when the biggest club in the country show interest the initial valuation is going to be high.
It’d just be the latest in a series of blows if Newcastle United were to lose their most exciting academy product Sean Longstaff to Manchester United, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer viewing the 21-year-old as a midfield priority.
It’s been a bizarre summer for the Magpies so far following the departure of Rafael Benitez and the impending arrival of former Sunderland boss Steve Bruce as new manager.
It is thought that Longstaff wants the chance to speak to United but the Red Devils value him at no more than £25million, half of what Newcastle want for his services.
Although it’s understandable to quote £50million for a player as invaluable to Newcastle as Longstaff, it’d be fairly unjust to deny him the chance of a life-changing transfer.
The situation may change if the player goes the extra mile and requests to leave Tyneside for Manchester this summer, but until then it’s unlikely Newcastle will budge on their valuation.
