Newcastle United player Ratings: Tottenham (A)

Newcastle were edged out 1-0 at Wembley Stadium after a late Son Heung-Min strike.

Rafa Benitez’s side competed well for 80 minutes with their goal rarely troubled in the first period.

The tactics were evident with Newcastle looking to frustrate the hosts and to punish on the counter-attack.

Ayoze Perez had Newcastle’s best chance midway through the second half with Hugo Lloris making an impressive stop.

However, Son broke Geordie hearts after Son struck the ball from about 18 yards with Martin Dubravka spilling what seemed like a simple stop.

Spurs then cruised to the win with Newcastle seeming the be hit with tiredness after putting lots of energy in their win over Manchester City on Tuesday.

The visitors were very close to an impressive four points against City and Spurs but were eventually denied.

Newcastle will stay 14th, five points above the relegation zone with the Magpies’ run of back-to-back wins halted.

Here’s how we rated the Newcastle players.
