Ahead of Aleksandar Mitrovic’s return to St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon, Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has insisted the club were right to sell the striker in the summer, the Mirror report.
The 24-year-old helped Fulham into the Premier League last season after a successful loan spell at Craven Cottage, scoring 12 times in 20 Championship fixtures.
That form prompted the London club to sign the Serbian international permanently in the summer for a fee worth £20 million, with the striker scoring seven times this season so far.

Benitez’s side on the other hand have struggled in front of goal during the campaign, finding the back of the net just 14 times in their 17 Premier League fixtures so far, with many claiming they are missing their former striker.
However, talking ahead of the Magpies’ fixture against Fulham, Benitez rubbished suggestions that the club were wrong to sell Mitrovic in the summer, labelling various finishes the club have achieved without the forward.
Were we right or wrong? We got promoted, we won the Championship, we were right. Then, we finished 10th – so we were right. Now, we are ahead of Fulham – so, at the moment, we are right. We are doing well without him.
