Newcastle United have an ‘advantage’ over their rivals in the race to sign Miguel Almiron, according to the player’s father.
The 24-year-old enjoyed an exceptional campaign with Atlanta United and has seen his services become highly sought-after, with clubs in England circling to secure a deal in January.
Almiron found the net on 13 occasions for his side and was instrumental as Atlanta went on to win the MLS Cup after they defeated Portland Timbers at the weekend.

Newcastle have been heavily linked with a swoop for the Paraguay international in recent months, with Rafa Benitez keen to add to his creative options when the January transfer window opens.
The likes of Arsenal and West Ham have also been touted as potential destinations for the playmaker but according to Ruben Almiron, the player’s father, the Magpies hold the upper hand in the race for his signature.
Speaking to ABC Cardinal, a radio station based in the midfielder’s homeland, he delivered an update on his son’s future with Atlanta. As quoted by the Daily Star, Almiron’s father said:
He will definitely go to England, what’s left to be decided is to what club but Newcastle is the one with the advantage.
