Benitez doesn’t fear the sack at Newcastle

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has insisted that he does not fear being sacked by the club, as he attempts to save the Magpies season.

Talk of the Spaniard’s long-term Tyneside future has raged on for some time now, with the former Liverpool and Real Madrid manager often being linked with vacant jobs around Europe.

Benitez also has not yet signed a contract extension, and with the club currently winless in their opening eight Premier League games, Benitez’ future has once again been called into question.

With Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers having been linked as a possible replacement for Benitez in the last few days, the current Magpies boss commented on whether he feared his job. Talking to BT Sport, Benitez said:

No. Because I don’t fear the sack. Because I don’t think that, that’s it.

Benitez remains confident that he can keep the club in the Premier League. He continued:

I have confidence we will do it. It’s not just me – my staff is really good, the players are working really well, the experience that we have after so many years, and still we are working harder than anyone and we have the updates, the software…

Everything that everybody has, we have that and experience, and then it’s just the team training well.

It’s not that I am telling you this because I have to, it is because I see the team training and when you prepare for the games, you see the other teams and say, ‘Okay, they have this and that, but maybe we can do this and that to beat them’.
