Lejeune emerged as an important player in his maiden season at Newcastle last term and Benitez will be hoping to have him back in contention as soon as possible, with the Magpies struggling for form.

As reported by BBC Newcastle commentator Matthew Raisbeck via Twitter, Benitez gave his verdict on a timescale for Lejeune’s return, hinting that the defender could return to full first-team training within a month.

Lejeune will, therefore, have a task on his hands to immediately return to the Newcastle starting line-up upon his return to fitness, but his reintegration into the first-team is sure to come as a big boost for Benitez.
