Newcastle legend Kevin Keegan has issued a message to owner Mike Ashley, calling on him to sell the club to ‘somebody who cares’.
Ashley has been heavily criticised for his handling of the club for a number of years now, not least because fans think he doesn’t care about the long-term future of the club.
While Ashley is believed to be attempting to patch up his rocky relationship with the fans by regularly attending games, the dedicated Magpies fanbase would rather he sell to a more committed prospective owner.
Keegan is one such fan who has had enough of Ashley, and talking to talkSPORT, the former England international had his say on the situation.
When asked if he had a message for Ashley, Keegan said:
Sell the club and let’s hope and pray somebody who takes it over realises what they’ve got.
I long for him to go because he’s not right for that club.
He bought Newcastle like a wealthy man would buy a yacht or an expensive car.
You can’t do that with football clubs, with the passion in the cities and the towns, and if there’s one club in the world you can’t do it with it’s the one he chose in Newcastle United.
He cannot treat it like he does one of his shops.
