Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has indicated to the club’s hierarchy that he is happy to stay beyond the end of the current campaign, according to the Chronicle Live.
Despite rumours circulating over recent months stating that the Spaniard is growing frustrated in the North-East, Benitez reportedly held positive talks with managing director Lee Charnley earlier in the week.
However, the pair are still a way off agreeing a contract extension for Benitez to remain in charge next season.

The 58-year-old is content to continue living in the city after this season, even though he looks to be a target for many sides after the season comes to a close.
Talking earlier in the week, Benitez admitted he was relaxed about his future and addressed the issues regarding Mike Ashley’s ownership.
If the owner wants to be around, that is positive, it has to be positive. I don’t see any problem with that because it means that he cares and is supporting the team. Hopefully that will be the case in the next weeks and months.
Benitez, Charnley and Ashley are set to sit down for their first transfer meeting of the season this weekend, with Benitez’s future more than likely on the agenda for the trio.
