Newcastle United are believed to be keen on a deal to sign Francesco Vicari from SPAL.
According to a report from Italian news outlet Calciomercato, the Magpies have identified Vicari as a potential target as Rafa Benitez looks to add further defensive quality to his options.
Newcastle were busy in the market during the summer transfer window and recruited two new centre-backs, with Federico Fernandez joining from Swansea City and Fabian Schar arriving from Deportivo La Coruna.

Nevertheless, it’s reported by Calciomercato that Benitez is an admirer of Vicari, who has established himself as an important player for SPAL in recent times.
It’s claimed that Vicari’s recent displays have prompted Newcastle to take a further look in recent weeks, as Calciomercato indicate that the defender has been ‘followed’ by the Magpies this season.
The 24-year-old will be focused on the task at hand, which is helping SPAL to a solid season in Serie A. However, the prospect of playing in the Premier League under Benitez could be of interest to the Italian.
