Newcastle United forward Salomon Rondon has been explaining why he was rested in the team’s recent defeat to Arsenal.
Rondon was left on the bench as Rafa Benitez’s side were consigned to yet another loss in the Premier League, with the Gunners coming away with a 2-1 victory.
Goals from Granit Xhaka and Mesut Ozil cancelled out a late consolation goal from Ciaran Clark as Newcastle were left to languish in the relegation zone after five games.
Rondon’s exclusion was, according to a report from Chronicle Live, was a consequence of fatigue, with the forward having endured a hectic schedule with Venezuela during the international break.

Speaking about his absence from the defeat to Arsenal, the Newcastle man admitted that the rest has been beneficial to him.
It was good for me because I scored two goals with my national team. Of course, it’s a long flight from Panama – our last game was there – but I’m happy and confident when you score goals there. After, it was about being focused and getting back to Newcastle.
I feel good. It’s a long flight, with the jet lag – it’s six hours behind in Panama – so when you arrive here you have to change quickly. It’s difficult sometimes because you can’t sleep and things like that, but now I’m more settled, so that’s good.
Rondon will, however, be desperate to make a significant impact for his loan club when they make the trip down to South London ahead of a crunch clash with Crystal Palace.
