Newcastle United defender Achraf Lazaar is willing to work hard for his place at the club but has admitted that a return to Serie A remains an appealing proposition ahead of the January transfer window.
Lazaar looked all but set to complete a loan switch back to Italy late on in the Serie A transfer window. Genoa were pressing to complete a loan deal for the left-back but saw their efforts amount to nothing, with a deal falling through.
The Moroccan spent last season on loan at Benevento but struggled to convince. Nevertheless, interest remained prevalent in the summer transfer window.

Lazaar, as quoted by Inside Futbol, has recently been talking about his future plans and insisted that he would be open to working hard to force his way up the pecking order under Rafa Benitez.
I will work hard to get back to the top and be the protagonist, if not I will look around.
Paul Dummett remains Newcastle’s first-choice left-back but Lazaar is not worried about what the future will hold, as he admitted that he would be more than receptive to a move to Genoa despite the summer deal collapsing.
Obviously, Italy and Serie A always remain in my heart. Try again with Genoa in January? Why not? I know Davide Ballardini well, he trained me at Palermo.
