Salomon Rondon is desperate to make his loan deal at Newcastle United permanent at the end of the season, he has confirmed.
The Venezuelan international is currently on the books of West Brom, who received Dwight Gayle on a season-long loan deal as the Magpies and the Baggies agreed to an exchange deal involving the two forwards.
Rondon has made only one appearance since completing the switch to St James’ Park and this came in Newcastle’s opening day defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
Competition for places in Rafa Benitez’s starting line-up this season is sure to be stiff, with Rondon battling the likes of Yoshinori Muto and Joselu for the attacking berth up top.

Nevertheless, Rondon appears to be up for the challenge and recently spoke to the Chronicle about his ambitions to play for Newcastle beyond his temporary spell.
Yes, moving here permanently is my personal target. And the only way to do that, of course, is to score goals train really, really hard to hold on to my place. I feel lucky. Of course. The situation when West Brom went down was difficult and I am just really grateful to be back in the Premier League again.
After failing to feature in the 0-0 draw against Cardiff City on Saturday, Rondon will be desperate to make an impact in Newcastle’s upcoming fixture against an in-form Chelsea side next weekend.
In my career, I have played in different leagues with different players and I know this is the biggest move of my career. That is why I want to stay here permanently.
