Newcastle are well-stocked with defensive options heading into the new season but have been recently linked with a move for another central defender.
Magpies captain Jamaal Lascelles developed a formidable partnership at the back alongside Florian Lejeune last season, forcing Mbemba even further down Rafa Benitez’s pecking order of central defenders.
It’s believed that Mbemba’s deal is worth in the region of £8 million, with Porto keen to help the player get back to his best in the Portuguese top-flight after an inconsistent spell in England.
