Newcastle are said to be considering making a move for Swiss centre-half Fabian Schär from La Liga outfit Deportivo La Coruña, according to the Chronicle.
The 26-year-old featured in all three of Switzerland’s World Cup group stage matches, but was omitted from the starting lineup in his nation’s Round of 16 exit to Sweden.

Schär began his career at FC Wil in Switzerland, before making the move to FC Basel aged 21. A further move to Hoffenheim followed in 2015, before a switch last summer saw the defender land in north-western Spain.
Fairly well travelled for a man of his age, Schär could be on the move again. Currently on holiday after the World Cup, the Chronicle report the 6 ft 1 in centre back has a £3 million release clause in his contract that manager Rafael Benitez may choose to activate.
With funds said to once again be limited for the Magpies, Schär may prove to be a low-cost high-reward option in the transfer market.
