Newcastle set to complete loan for striker with a view to permanent deal next summer
Newcastle are closing in on a loan deal to sign Salomon Rondon, with a view to making the move permanent at the end of the 2018/19 season, according to reports.
The striker has a release clause of £16.5m in his contract but West Brom are set to make a bit more than that by allowing Newcastle to take him on loan for the season at a cost of £4m, with the Magpies agreeing to purchase him a year later for £15m, should they stay in the Premier League.
The move will allow Rafa Benitez to bring in other reinforcements this summer, safe in the knowledge that he’ll be able to sign the Venezuelan further down the line.
West Brom would have preferred to sell the striker outright, but with no real offers on the table, the deal from Newcastle will still allow them to get Rondon’s huge salary off their wage bill as they plan for a season of Championship football.
