Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has insisted that club captain Jamaal Lascelles will not leave this summer, as per the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder.

The defender enjoyed a fantastic season in the Premier League recently and it’s believed that a host of top-flight clubs have expressed an interest in signing him from Newcastle.

It was reported recently that West Ham had, in fact, made a significant offer in their efforts to acquire Lascelles. It’s believed that a bid worth £25 million was lodged for the Newcastle star, but this proposal was immediately rejected.

Speculation has, for some time now, surrounded Lascelles’ future at St James’ Park but he has often reiterated his happiness to be playing for the Magpies.

Benitez will be hoping to keep hold of the large bulk of his squad as he continues to prepare his Newcastle squad for their second season back in the Premier League.
