AC Milan are ready to rival Newcastle for the signature of Lille star Thiago Maia, according to sources in Italy.
Newcastle have been linked in the past few weeks with a move for the 21-year old Brazilian, who has impressed for Lille this season despite the club’s disappointing campaign.
Now Milan have entered the race, according to a CalcioNews24 exclusive, with sporting director Massimiliano Mirabello known to be a huge admirer of Maia, having made contact with Santos over his signature last summer.
Lille are likely to sell this summer, with the club currently experiencing money issues. However, having signed from Santos last year for just €14million, the defensive midfielder is expected to cost much more if he does move on.
However, Newcastle have reportedly already made initial contact with Maia’s representatives, which could potentially give them the edge.
Maia made 34 Ligue 1 appearances for Les Dogues last season.
