Newcastle United have emerged as the favourites to sign Sassuolo defender Gian Marco Ferrari this summer, according to Calcio Mercato, via Sports Mole.
The 26-year-old has been tied down to the Italian side for the last two seasons performing particularly well at times, which has alerted the Premier League clubs.
He was out on loan at fellow Italian side Sampdoria last term where he made 30 appearances across all competitions in what was a strong season.

In that deal there was an option made available for the Italian’s to complete the signing of Ferrari for £11.2 million, but at this moment a fee has yet to be agreed.
An approach is expected to be made for the player in the coming days from Newcastle as they look to build on last seasons 10th placed finish.
Other clubs throughout Europe including Monaco, Fulham and Sevilla are keen on signing the player, but are yet to make their moves.
