Newcastle United look set to improve their goalkeeping situation this summer and have reportedly stepped up their interest in Alphonse Areola.
Areola was Paris Saint Germain’s first choice keeper this season, making 43 appearances and keeping an impressive 21 clean sheets.
Despite his form, it doesn’t seem that Areola will be a regular starter for the French champions next season as PSG are on the verge of signing Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon.
Buffon has left Juventus after 17 years at the club and has chosen Paris as his likely destination.

According to L’Equipe, Areola is unhappy with the way PSG went after with Buffon, believing it was done quietly and disrespectfully.
Rafa Benitez is a fan of Areola and attempted to sign him last summer but was unsuccessful.
The Frenchman is set to have talks with new boss Thomas Tuchel over his situation and if nothing is sorted, then it could be a possibility that Newcastle have a new man in between the sticks next season.
