Newcastle United feel that they won’t face any problems from the EFL after overseeing losses of up to £90 million on their way to winning the Championship last season, according to the Telegraph.
It’s been confirmed that there will be no investigation on the club based on Financial Fair Play rulings. As a result, it was key that the club under Rafa Benitez were promoted straight back to the Premier League following relegation the season before in order to comply with the financial regulations.
Had promotion not been achieved and they had stayed in the Championship, the club may have been forced to manage their funds by trimming the wage bill and offloading some key players.
In terms of TV money, Newcastle were given £50 million on two occasions throughout the season in July and January when the transfer windows came to a close, as per the report from the Telegraph.
Owner Mike Ashley remains on the lookout for a new investor for Newcastle, but it appears as though the club were fortunate to avoid financial backlash in their route back to the Premier League.
