Anderlecht label Newcastle ‘stiff’ over Sels deal

Newcastle United goalkeeper Matz Sels is on the verge of joining Belgium club Anderlecht on a permanent deal but there are problems between the two club’s negotiations.

According to Het Laatste Nieuws, The Magpies have set a price tag of €4m, which Anderlecht believe to be too much with the price tag now becoming a problem between the two sides.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper joined Newcastle in 2016 for £6.5 million from Gent but has since failed to make himself a regular in the starting 11.

Sels spent the 2017/18 season on loan at Anderlecht, impressing during his 36 appearances for the Belgian side.

Anderlecht believe Newcastle are being ‘stiff’ as they try to haggle the price down, but Newcastle are determined to recoup as much of the £6.5million that Sels cost them as possible.

Reports say that Sels is prepared to take a pay cut to join the Belgian club and wants to sign a five-year deal.
