Newcastle will consider a move for Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand if the Saints are relegated this season, according to the Express.
Bertrand’s departure is likely to happen regardless of where Saints play their football, with a number of sides showing a keen interest in the player.
He has, for a large part of the season, been the Saints captain with regular skipper Steven Davis sidelined with a frustrating injury since January.
Newcastle are looking to strengthen their side in the summer and see Bertrand as a potential marquee signing at the end of the season.
He is also set to be a starter for England at the World Cup this summer and will be looking to put in three strong performances to cement his place in the side.
Newcastle have already secured their Premier League status ahead of next season and will want to kick on next term.
