Newcastle keen on signing Tom Cairney

Newcastle United are reportedly keen on bringing in Fulham star Tom Cairney to St James’ Park in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to Sports Mole.

Cairney has been one of the standout performers in the whole Championship this season, as third-placed Fulham are currently on an unbeaten run in the league which carries on from early December.

The Cottagers are in a strong position to be promoted to the Premier League, but most likely through the Play-Offs, with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Cardiff City comfortably in the automatic promotion spots.

However, no matter what league the West London side are in next season, bids will surely flow in for the Scottish international.

It is believed that during the January transfer window, West Ham and West Brom were turned down in failed attempts of around £20m to bring Cairney to the top flight.

His current contract at Craven Cottage keeps him by the Thames for another three seasons. This means that the rice for him will be quite high.

However, the Magpies are not the only team looking fondly on the 27-year-old, with Leicester City, who are doing excellently under new manager Claude Puel, sitting 8th in the Premier League, are also talking of bringing him to the King Power Stadium next season.

With Newcastle looking like they will probably survive the relegation scrap this season, Rafa Benitez will want transfers to help build the club guide the Black and Whites up the Premier League table, and Cairney may be the next incoming man.
