The striker, who has been out of favour all season, is still expected to make a move before the window closes with the destination proving to be unclear at this stage.
Newcastle are keen to get rid of the player as they don’t see him in their plans fro the remainder of the season and beyond as they have faith in Dwight Gayle, Joselu and new arrival Islam Slimani.
Mitrovic is a good striker on his day and so the fact the club are letting him leave on a loan seems surprising given his quality.
Also he still has a place to fight for at the World Cup so this might be in his thinking when he was considering whether he should move on or not this month.
