van Bronckhorst reacts to Newcastle’s Jorgensen bid

Feyenoord manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has spoken to the media about Newcastle United’s recent bid for his striker, Nicolai Jorgensen, as per Shields Gazette.

It has been reported that Rafa Benitez has made a £12m bid for the Danish striker, which has been rejected, but it is believed that the Toon will go in for another bid.

The 27-year-old has scored seven goals and made three assists this season in the Eredivisie, but was sent off in his last game, a 2-0 away defeat in the heavyweight clash against Ajax Amsterdam.

Last season, when Feyenoord picked up their first Eredivisie title since 1999, Jorgensen was the league’s top goalscorer with 21 goals.

Newcastle United are really lacking a striker, with the front two of Joselu and Ayoze Perez scoring six goals between them, and Aleksandar Mitrovic struggling for minutes under Benitez.

Feyenoord manager, and former Barcelona, Arsenal and Glasgow Rangers star Giovanni von Bronckhorst said about the whole situation (via Shields Gazette):

I know that there is interest.

I’ve not heard from Martin (van Geel, Feyenoord’s technical director) that there are negotiations.

You are always dependent on the market, especially if it is an English club. It can go fast.

If Jorgensen were to make the move to the North East, it would be his first taste of the Premier League, but he is a proven goalscorer and has proven himself to be an influential part of the Danish National Team since 2011.

So Newcastle would have a brilliant player on their hands who could really help the scrap at the bottom end of the table, but they would have to improve their bid for him.

matchday.
