Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has set a deadline of January 20th to complete all of the clubs incoming deals, and is confident Mike Ashley can do it.
Despite starting the season well, the Magpies have lost eight of their last nine games, which has seen the club drop into the relegation zone.
On Saturday the club take on West Ham, a club who are enjoying a decent spell of form, and will need to be at their best if they are to take any points away from the London Stadium.
Benitez has reportedly agreed a loan-deal to bring in Chelsea forward Kenedy in January, but isn’t aware of the extent that his budget will reach. Regardless, he is confident that soon-to-be outgoing owner Mike Ashley will be able to provide him with the players to keep the club in the Premier League.
Talking ahead of this weekend’s game against West Ham, Benitez said;
I have confidence that Mike Ashley will deliver what we need to stay in the Premier League before January 20 to be sure that we have time to work with the new players.
I don’t know the budget that I have, so we don’t know how much we can spend. It will depend on the value of the players, the players who are available or not and we may have to move players out to bring others in.
It’s really important to do that. We haven’t received any offers for any of our players at this stage, but we have to do things as quickly as possible and I have the belief and the confidence in Mike Ashley that by January 15 or 20, we have to be there with everything done.
Am I confident we can get what we want? In some cases yes, in some cases no.
Newcastle sit in 18th place on 15 points, just one point away from Stoke City in 17th.
