Newcastle have offered Jack Colback to Sunderland, according to the South Shields Gazette.
The midfielder has been told he can leave the club as he has no future with Newcastle. Manager Rafa Benitez firmly shut the door on recalling Colback to the first team squad in November, with the Spaniard claiming he had too many players in Colback’s position.

Half a dozen clubs are interested in signing the 28-year-old, with former club Sunderland one of them. The midfielder is interested in staying in the North East, so is open on a return to Wearside.
However, cash-strapped Sunderland may struggle to afford to sign Colback permanently. The midfielder is reportedly on £40,000 a week, something that Sunderland would not be able to afford. Therefore, if the midfielder was to return to the Stadium of Light, a loan deal would be more likely.
Other Championship clubs interested in securing Colbacks signature include Leeds United, Derby County, Bristol City, Reading, Wolves and Hull City.
