Newcastle forward Dwight Gayle feels as though he needs to show his worth to the team following a difficult start to the season for the former Crystal Palace.
Gayle was Newcastle’s top scorer last season in the Championship netting 23 times but has been limited to just three starts this term and this is something he is desperate to put right.
The English forward has lost his place in the side largely because of the summer arrival from Stoke City, Joselu, who has been preferred up top for most of the season.

He was handed a rare start in the previous match against AFC Bournemouth but, he was unable to take any of the chances to leave himself frustrated once again.
When talking about the season so far to the Chronicle, Gayle said this:
I just need to keep working hard and prove to the gaffer that I can be in the starting 11.
We had a bad result before the international break so it’s given us chance to work on a few things we needed to and then hopefully we carry that into the game at the weekend.
When you don’t get the result or performance you want you prefer to get back out there as soon as you can and get it out of your system. But that will mean we’re all raring to go at the weekend.
With the side facing a trip to 2nd place Manchester United this weekend it’s highly unlikely that Gayle will play in a two-man attack as the competition is so fierce up top.

Gayle also had some thoughts on the test which is to come this weekend up at Old Trafford.
Everyone knows how big Manchester United is and playing in front of 75,000 at Old Trafford is going to be special for the boys.
But we can’t get too overrun by it and we need to concentrate on the way we need to play because we need to pick up points.
