Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mikel Merino has arrived at Newcastle for a medical ahead of his pending season-long loan deal to the Magpies, according to Sky Sports.
The Spanish U21 international is reportedly set to join Newcastle on loan but crucially, there will be an option to make the deal permanent in the summer of 2018.
The 21-year-old signed for Dortmund in 2016 but has failed to break into their team and at such a crucial time in his career, he’s decided to make a move to England.

The youngster made just seven appearances for Dortmund last season and was apparently unsettled at the German club so a move away seems to be in the best interest of all parties.
Crucially, the Spaniard can also play as a centre-back, so he provides Rafa Benitez with a very useful, versatile option.
Newcastle are now expected to focus on securing a new striker, with Loic Remy the latest player to be linked with a move to St James’ Park.
