Manquillo, who had fallen out of favour at Atletico, spent last season on loan at Newcastle’s North-East rivals Sunderland, making 20 appearances for David Moyes’ side. Despite his best efforts, he could not save Sunderland, as they were relegated to the Championship.
The Spaniard becomes the sixth summer signing at St James’ Park, as Newcastle look to build on their Championship winning side from last season.

The Magpies will look to stake a claim in the Premier League next season, and Manquillo’s addition will certainly bolster their defensive ranks ahead of what could be a fairly difficult season for Rafa Benitez’s side.
With various new additions to the Newcastle side, Benitez is said to be feeling as though he is getting somewhere in terms of recruitment, and is keen to add more talent to his side, with the Spaniard keen to further the depth of his attacking department.
