Turkish giants Galatasaray are attempting to fend off interest from Newcastle United in Manchester City midfielder Fernando by submitting an improved offer to secure his services, as manager Rafa Benitez remains hopeful of agreeing a deal, according to a report on Turkish Football.
The midfielder has fallen down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium and the club are looking to cash in this summer.

Fernando was left out of the pre-season tour squad by manager Pep Guardiola as the 29-year-old looks to solve his future.
Newcastle were reported to have submitted a £5m bid for the Brazilian, which wasn’t even considered by City as it was way short of what they want for him.
Fernando has three years remaining on his contract with City but if he is not getting regular game time then he wants to move, with Galatasaray now emerging as his most likely destination.
The Turkish giants are willing to offer a contract to Fernando which will see him earning approximately €3m.

However, they want to loan Fernando for 12 months first with a clause which will give them the option to buy him permanently next summer, but it is yet to be confirmed whether City are willing to do that.
Newcastle boss Benitez is looking to improve his squad with experienced Premier League players before the start of the season and still has hope over a deal for Fernando.
